Kuils River residents welcome the new upgrades along Saxdowns Road

The City recently completed the upgrade of Saxdowns Road in Kuils River. The upgrades included the extension of Saxdowns Road from Langverwacht Road to Van Riebeeck Road. This work forms part of the City’s Congestion Relief Management Programme, which aims to alleviate traffic congestion in the Kuils River area. Read more below:

'I would like to thank the residents in Kuils River and surrounds for their patience while these works were under way. We are very happy with the end result. As I understand, residents are already enjoying the new sidewalk and bicycle lane on the extended Saxdowns Road. The aim of this upgrade is to reduce the time residents spend travelling every day by implementing targeted road capacity improvements while also catering to the non-motorised transport needs in the area, all forming part of our efforts to keep Cape Town moving,' said the City's Mayoral Committee Member for Urban Mobility, Councillor Rob Quintas.

The improvements also included:

•     Installation of a new traffic signal at the Van Riebeeck Road intersection

•     Streetlighting to provide sufficient lighting for all road users, including the bicycle path

•     Installation of a large stormwater pipe along Van Riebeeck Road to the canal at Dumas Road
